Our Mission Statement

Duxbury Architects designs modern and traditional houses and remodels existing houses to meet our client's goals and lifestyle. We work closely with the site, neighborhood and environment to create designs that are green, energy efficient, and beautiful.

Our approach is uniquely personal. Peter Duxbury works to create a home that is an expression of our client's personality, taste and lifestyle. Our process is very professional and embodies design, engineering and art. We see the house and the site as one palette and integrate the elements into architecture.

PETER H. DUXBURY, AIA, NCARB

- Principal and Chief Designer

Established in 1985, Duxbury Architects is a small architecture firm based in Los Altos, California. Our work currently focuses on high quality custom residential projects, including new homes, entire house makeovers, additions/remodels, interior design, site design and select commercial projects - most notably the Los Altos Hills Town Hall, a highly successful new green building. Most of our projects are within the Metropolitan Bay Area, from Marin County to Santa Cruz, with a concentration of work in Los Altos, Los Altos Hills and Portola Valley. Duxbury Architects is a small architecture firm (with three licensed Architects) that intentionally remains small in order to deliver excellent, personalized service. Peter Duxbury acts as the designer for each project. A project architect is also assigned to each project and is responsible for much of the day-to-day communications. Each project is designed and managed to meet the client's goals and construction process. We maintain close relationships with the building industry and City Planning and Building Departments. In addition, we have a quality network of design and engineering consultants to create the right "fit" and project team for the clients project.

Peter Duxbury has managed and designed over 300 residential and commercial buildings and interior projects, ranging in price from $50,000 to over $10,000,000. Duxbury Architects remains involved with the coordination of each project throughout construction, including interiors, site work, and construction administration. Peter Duxbury has over 38 years of experience, holds an NCARB Certificate, is a member of the American Institute of Architects, and is licensed to practice architecture California, New York and Massachusetts. Previous to 1985, Peter Duxbury was a Senior Project Architect and an Associate at Gensler Associates, San Francisco, where he acted as project manager for Levi Strauss Corporate Headquarters, the Measurex Corporation Employee Center, and a number of major historic commercial renovations in San Francisco. Prior to moving to San Francisco in 1980, Mr. Duxbury had his own practice in Rochester, New York, where he did a number of quality residential, commercial and retail projects and won an AIA design award.
